Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoate (MDMB) is a pharmacological agent that has been used in wastewater treatment. It is an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase and can be used to treat Alzheimer's disease. MDMB inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase, which are enzymes that break down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This inhibition may be able to slow or stop the progression of Alzheimer's disease by preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine.
