Product Information
- Ethanone, 1-(3-Methyl-5-Isoxazolyl)-
1-(3-Methylisoxazol-5-yl)ethanone is a chemical compound that can be used as an organic catalyst. It has been shown to react with amide, carbonyl group and other compounds. 1-(3-Methylisoxazol-5-yl)ethanone catalyses the reaction of hydrochloric acid with acetonitrile to form hydrogen chloride and acetaldehyde. The pH of the reaction determines the ratio of products formed. If the pH is above 10, then no hydrogen chloride is produced and all of the acetonitrile reacts to form acetaldehyde. If the pH is below 10, then hydrogen chloride will be produced in addition to acetaldehyde. These reactions are spontaneous in acidic solutions but not in basic solutions.
