3-Methyl-2,3-dihydroindole hydrochloride is an ezh2 inhibitor. It is a chiral molecule that binds to the catalytic subunit of the enzyme histone H3 methyltransferase (EHMT1) and inhibits the transfer of methyl groups from S-adenosylmethionine to lysine residues in the DNA. The synthesis of this compound was achieved by a chemoenzymatic approach with a lipase as catalyst. This reaction system has been shown to be functional for the synthesis of molecules with different functional groups. 3-Methyl-2,3-dihydroindole hydrochloride has been reported to inhibit EHMT1 in living cells, which may lead to epigenetic changes in gene expression. The reaction time for this synthesis is about 30 minutes.
