Product Information
5-Methoxythiophene-2-carbaldehyde is a polymerized, methoxy, optical, yields, five-membered, polyene monomer. Polyenes are chemical compounds with alternating double and single carbon-carbon bonds in a conjugated system. Some examples of polyenes are the phthalocyanines and the tetracyclic dianthrones. Polyenes have many uses including as a monomer to form plastics and resins or as an intermediate to make heterocycles. 5-Methoxythiophene-2-carbaldehyde has been found to react with chloride ions in the presence of Wittig reagents to produce methylthio compounds.
5-Methoxythiophene-2-carbaldehyde is also a precursor for heterocycles such as oxalyl chloride which can be used for the production of new materials such as photoresists for microelectronics fabrication.
