Methyl 4-methoxynicotinate is a chemical compound that has the formula CH3ONCOCOCH3. It is an organic molecule with a tautomeric equilibrium. The equilibrium constant for the reaction of methyl 4-methoxynicotinate with methanol and water at 25°C is 1.0 × 10−4. The conversion of one tautomer to the other can be accomplished by changing the pH or adding a nucleophile such as an alcohol, amine, or carboxylic acid. Methyl 4-methoxynicotinate has been used in spectrophotometry experiments to measure ultraviolet light absorption in order to determine its concentration in solution. It also has been used to study lactam formation as well as bromoethane and n-hexane reactions when exposed to ultraviolet light.
