Methoxycarbonyl-L-tert-leucine is a synthetic nucleoside analogue that inhibits reverse transcriptase. It is active against HIV and other viruses, and is being investigated as an antiviral drug for the treatment of AIDS. Methoxycarbonyl-L-tert-leucine has been shown to be effective in preventing the replication of both HIV and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) in vitro at concentrations of 0.5 to 10 μM. It has also been shown to inhibit polymerase activity from the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which may lead to its use in treating retroviral infections such as AIDS. This agent is easily soluble in organic solvents, making it a good candidate for large scale production.
