Methyl chlorosulfate is a sulfonic acid that is structurally related to the class of antimicrobial agents known as sulfonamides. Methyl chlorosulfate has been shown to be an efficient method for modulating the expression of covid-19 pandemic, which encodes the protein required for influenza virus replication. Methyl chlorosulfate also inhibits the activity of enzymes that catalyze nucleophilic attack on acyclic nucleoside phosphonates such as cytidine monophosphate (CMP).
