Product Information

Name:
3-O-Methylfluorescein
Synonyms:
  • 3'-Hydroxy-6'-Methoxyspiro[2-Benzofuran-3,9'-Xanthene]-1-One
  • 3'-hydroxy-6'-methoxy-3H-spiro[2-benzofuran-1,9'-xanthen]-3-one
Description:

3-O-Methylfluorescein is a fluorescent dye that is used in clinical studies to evaluate the effect of antimicrobial agents on physiological function. It has been shown to bind to phosphatase, an enzyme that regulates cellular metabolic processes, and is activated by a chemical reaction with ouabain. 3-O-Methylfluorescein appears to have potent antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria and yeast. 3-O-Methylfluorescein binds with high affinity to Ca2+ ions and may be used as a marker for cardiac glycoside binding sites in human liver tissue.
