2-Methoxy-1-naphthonitrile is an acrylonitrile derivative that is used as a crosslinking agent for polymers. It has been shown to be a potential additive for polypropylene and polyethylene plastics, improving the mechanical properties of these materials. 2-Methoxy-1-naphthonitrile can also be used in the production of peroxide, which may have applications in the treatment of wastewater.
2-Methoxy-1-naphthonitrile is synthesized from benzonitrile and aldoximes, which are prepared from dehydration of alcohols or aldehydes. This reaction proceeds via an oxime formation followed by hydrolysis of the resulting compound with base.
