Description

1-Methylazetidine-3-carboxylic acid (1MAZ) is a hdac inhibitor that is structurally related to the sulfinyl imidazoles. It has been shown to reactivate latent HIV-1 in vitro and in vivo. 1MAZ inhibits HDAC activity by binding to the active site of the enzyme, thereby preventing its inhibition by acetylated histones. It also inhibits DNA transcription and protein synthesis, leading to cell death. The pharmacokinetic properties of 1MAZ have been studied in rats and mice and found to be dose dependent. Pharmacokinetic studies on human beings are currently underway.
