1-Methyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid is a bioactive molecule with anti-tumor activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors in animal models and has been used as an experimental medicine for the treatment of leukemia. The molecules are synthesized by condensing one molecule of glutamic acid and one molecule of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline with one molecule of phthalic anhydride in the presence of solvents such as benzene or chloroform. The molecules have a planar conformation due to their aromatic nature and are able to form supramolecular complexes through hydrogen bonding between the carboxyl groups on the ligands.
