4-Methylbenzylphosphonic acid diethyl ester is a chemical compound that is used as a sealant. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of active enzymes, such as p-nitrophenyl phosphate, which is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of phospholipids and lipoproteins. 4-Methylbenzylphosphonic acid diethyl ester also binds to molecules, such as phosphatidylethanolamine, that are important for cellular functions. 4-Methylbenzylphosphonic acid diethyl ester can also be used to study autoimmune diseases because it interacts with molecules that are important for the body's immune response. The analog of this molecule is sarin, which is a nerve agent that was developed by Nazi Germany during World War II and causes death by respiratory paralysis.
