Product Information
- o-Toluenesulfonic acid dihydrate
2-Methylbenzenesulfonic acid dihydrate (MBSA) is a crystalline esterase inhibitor that belongs to the class of 6-carboxylic acid. It is used for the treatment of restenosis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit esterases in vascular smooth muscle cells. MBSA inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 and has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on the lung. 2-Methylbenzenesulfonic acid dihydrate also has an anti-inflammatory effect on the heart and reduces pulmonary hypertension by inhibiting angiotensin II receptors in bronchial tissue. The benzyl ring of MBSA is positioned at the same side as the carboxylic acid group, which has been shown to increase its potency as an inhibitor.
