Methyltriphenylphosphonium methylcarbonate is a deuterated and light-resistant organometallic reagent that is used in organic synthesis. It can be prepared by the Wittig reaction of triphenylphosphine with methylmagnesium bromide, or by the reaction of methyltriphenylphosphonium chloride with methanol. Methyltriphenylphosphonium methylcarbonate has been shown to react with aldehydes to form ketones and carboxylic acids, and can also be used as a photopolymerization initiator in liquid crystal systems. The nature of this reagent is unknown.
