4-(Methylsulfonylamino)benzylamine hydrochloride is a cationic surfactant that can be used for the prevention of microbial growth. It has been shown to have microbicidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 4-(Methylsulfonylamino)benzylamine hydrochloride may also be useful in preventing or treating microbial infections in bone tissue. This molecule binds to the hydroxyl group in the apatite crystal lattice and prevents or slows down the process of ossification. 4-(Methylsulfonylamino)benzylamine hydrochloride can also catalyze photocatalytic oxidation by generating reactive oxygen species such as hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion radicals, and singlet oxygen.
