Methyl 2-(chlorosulfonyl)-3-methylbenzoate is a layered inorganic compound that can be used for the separation of oil and water. It has been shown to be more efficient than other layering agents such as sodium chloride, potassium sulfate, aluminum sulfate, and magnesium sulfate. Methyl 2-(chlorosulfonyl)-3-methylbenzoate has also been found to be an effective emulsification agent for pipeline operations. As well as being able to connect with other compounds, methyl 2-(chlorosulfonyl)-3-methylbenzoate has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
