Description:

6-Methoxy-1,4-dihydroquinolin-4-one is a molecule that contains an intramolecular hydrogen bond. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of topoisomerase II, which is an enzyme that regulates the number of supercoils in DNA. 6-Methoxy-1,4-dihydroquinolin-4-one binds to the active site of topoisomerase II and prevents it from relaxing DNA. This inhibition causes DNA breakage and cell death. The compound has also been shown to inhibit nitrophenol reductases, nitroreductases, and propionate reductases. 6-Methoxy-1,4-dihydroquinolin-4-one is often used as a linker for organic synthesis reactions in industry because of its stability against oxidation by air or light.
