Methyl 2-acetamidoacrylate is an amine that is used to synthesize dyes, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. It is a white solid with a low melting point that can be dissolved in water or methanol. Methyl 2-acetamidoacrylate is also used as a reactant in the synthesis of other compounds. This compound has been shown to inhibit bacterial translocation in vivo in CD-1 mice. The reaction solution of methyl 2-acetamidoacrylate has been studied using acid analysis and NMR spectroscopy for kinetic data. Methyl 2-acetamidoacrylate can be synthesized from two different starting materials: 2-aminoisobutyric acid or sodium carbonate. The asymmetric synthesis of methyl 2-acetamidoacrylate uses protonation to produce the desired enantiomeric form of the product.
