Product Information
- (R)-2-Amino-2-methyl-3-hydroxypropanoic acid
- D-Alpha-Methylserine
2-Methyl-D-serine is a cocrystallized form of the amino acid, d-alanine, and 2-methylserine. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of serine from glycine. The transhydroxymethylase enzyme catalyzes the first step in this process by converting 2-methylserine to L-serine. Hydroxymethylation is a biochemical reaction that occurs when a hydroxyl group (-OH) reacts with a methyl group (-CH3). In the case of 2-methyl-D-serine, this reaction creates a water molecule and d-alanine, which has two nitrogen atoms. This reaction can also be used to synthesize other molecules such as proteins or nucleic acids.
2-Methylserine can also be used as an ion exchanger for purifying hydrogen gas from water molecules. Asymmetric synthesis is a type of chemical synthesis that produces an enantiomerically pure product
