It is a white solid that is soluble in organic solvents. 4-Methoxyphenyl mesylate can be used in organic synthesis as a fluoro, mesylates, photolysis, benzonitriles, irradiation, halides, sulfonates, biomolecular chlorides and sterically. Yields of this compound depend on the reaction conditions. For example, when 4-methoxyphenyl mesylate reacts with an electron deficient substrate such as an aryl halide or electron rich substrate such as an alcohol or amine in presence of base and heat, yields are high. When 4-methoxyphenyl mesylate reacts with an electron rich substrate such as an alcohol or amine without base at room temperature or below yields are low. The product of this reaction is the corresponding phenol
