Product Information

Name:
Methyl 2-bromoacrylate
Synonyms:
  • 2-Propenoic Acid, 2-Bromo-, Methyl Ester
  • Ethyl 2-Bromoprop-2-Enoate
Description:

Methyl 2-bromoacrylate is a chiral compound that is used as a monomer for the synthesis of polymers. It is prepared by the reaction of bromine with methyl acrylate or ethyl acrylate in the presence of a base, such as sodium carbonate. The product has been used to synthesize polymers with a variety of properties, including silicon-containing polymers. Methyl 2-bromoacrylate has shown inhibitory potency against enzyme activity and radiation in vitro. In vivo studies have shown that this compound is capable of inhibiting acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase, which are enzymes involved in the degradation of acetylcholine and butyric acid respectively. This inhibition leads to an increase in acetylcholine levels and decreases in butyric acid levels, which may lead to increased cognitive function and improved memory retention.
