It also inhibits the production of haemolyticus, a strain of staphylococcus bacteria. 3-Mercapto-3-methyl hexan-1-ol is an enantiomer of 2-(2'-hydroxyethyl)hexanoic acid and has been shown to have haemolytic activity against erythrocytes from bovine blood.
