Methyl-2-(methylamino)acetate is a drug with amide and ester properties. It is used as a pharmaceutical drug to treat tumours that have not responded to other treatments. Methyl-2-(methylamino)acetate has been shown to inhibit the binding of epinephrine to beta receptors in the heart, leading to relaxation of the heart muscle and vasodilation. Methyl-2-(methylamino)acetate also inhibits cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDE), which are enzymes that hydrolyze cyclic nucleotides such as cAMP and cGMP. This inhibition leads to increased levels of these cyclic nucleotides, which can increase blood pressure and heart rate.
