Methyl 4-oxothiane-3-carboxylate is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of decarboxylation products. This compound has been shown to be enantioselective with respect to the formation of trimethylsilyl and dimethyl esters. It can also be used as a reagent for the synthesis of esters, ethers, and phosphorus compounds. The major use of this compound is in the production of methyl 3-hydroxybenzoate, which is used in the manufacture of some pharmaceutical drugs. Methyl 4-oxothiane-3-carboxylate can also be used for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidine phosphate (DHP) from uracil.
