Description:

4-Methoxyphenylthiourea is a synthetic organic compound that was first synthesized in 1887. It is a colorless crystalline solid that has been shown to have an optimal reaction rate at pH 2.0 and reaction time of 1 hour. 4-Methoxyphenylthiourea is used as a catalyst in the synthesis of other compounds, such as sulfones, ureas, and carbamates. The functional theory of this reaction states that the methyl group on the phenyl ring reacts with the sulfur atom on thiourea to form a methylthiouracil intermediate. This intermediate then reacts with hydrochloric acid to form the final product.
