Metaterol is a drug that can be used as an absorption enhancer. It has targetable properties and phenyl groups, which make it useful in diagnostic tests. Metaterol is a pro-drug that is activated by chemical interactions with the active analogs of the 2-adrenergic receptor and the adenyl cyclase. Activation of these receptors leads to an increase in cAMP levels and subsequent activation of protein kinases, which results in increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Metaterol also has fatty acid ester side chains that are implanted into the fatty acid ester membrane, resulting in t-cell proliferation.
