Product Information
3-Maleimidopropionic anhydride is a prodrug that is converted to the active form, 3-maleimidopropionyl-L-glutamic acid (3MPEG), in the body. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in culture and also to have antitumour activity in animal experiments. This drug can be used as a long-acting anticancer agent by conjugating it with other drugs such as paclitaxel or doxorubicin, which can be released slowly into the body. 3MPEG may also be activated by combining it with glucose reductase, which lowers blood glucose levels. The pharmacological effects of 3MPEG may be due to its ability to connect with DNA and RNA, thereby preventing transcription and protein synthesis.
