Methyl 2-amino-3-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)propanoate is an organic solvent that is used in pharmaceutical drug production. It has been shown to react with nucleophiles, including histidine and metal ions, by a nucleophilic attack. The reaction between methyl 2-amino-3-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)propanoate and histidine was shown to be stereoselective as the product formed was the S enantiomer. This compound also reacts with metal ions such as copper. Methyl 2-amino-3-(1H-imidazol-4-yl)propanoate has been shown to be acidic and labile in tissues such as skin.
