Description

Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT) is a metal carbonyl that is used as a coating on steel. It is also used in the production of fatty acid methyl esters and isopropyl palmitate, which are used as control agents in the manufacture of plastics. MMT can be found in the environment due to its use as a corrosion inhibitor in certain types of coatings or lubricants. It has been shown to cause genotoxic effects and may have carcinogenic properties. MMT can enter the environment through emissions during processing or from other sources such as automobile exhaust.
