Methyl 5-bromo-2-chloropyridine-4-carboxylate (MBCPC) is a drug that has been shown to have high specificity for neurofibrillary tangles. MBCPC is a chemical compound that can be used in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. The chemical is administered intravenously and has been shown to decrease the levels of phosphorylated tau protein, which are associated with dementia.
MBCPC can be used in positron emission tomography (PET) scans to measure pathological changes in the brain. The hallmark of this technique is quantitative data on both amyloid beta and phosphorylated tau proteins.
