4-Methylbenzylmagnesium chloride is an organometallic compound that can be used for cross-coupling reactions. It is a symmetrical molecule with a tetrahydropyran ring, which is an unsaturated six-membered ring with four carbon atoms and two oxygen atoms. This compound has been shown to react with chlorine, hydroxyl groups, and alkyl groups in the presence of a base or Lewis acid to form ethers, alcohols, ketones, esters, and carboxylic acids. 4-Methylbenzylmagnesium chloride has been used to desulfurize polyenes by reacting with sulfur at room temperature. 4-Methylbenzylmagnesium chloride also reacts with xenopus oocytes in order to study their function.
