Description:

Medroxyprogesterone is a synthetic hormone which is used in combination with estradiol to treat various forms of breast cancer. Medroxyprogesterone is administered as an intramuscular injection and mimics the natural hormone progesterone. The drug binds to the progesterone receptors, preventing other hormones from binding and causing a decrease in estrogen levels. Medroxyprogesterone-d3 is a synthetic form of medroxyprogesterone that contains a radioactive isotope that can be detected by mass spectrometry. This form of medroxyprogesterone is used in the diagnosis and treatment of endometrial hyperplasia and carcinoma, as well as premenstrual syndrome. It is administered by intramuscular injection or oral tablets and has been found to be more effective than medroxyprogesterone alone.
