12-Methyltridecanoic acid is an alkanoic acid that is also a hydroxyl fatty acid. It is found in some plants, such as the genus "Pentadiplandra" and has been shown to have antiviral activity against human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. 12-Methyltridecanoic acid has also been shown to inhibit growth of the bacterial strain "Staphylococcus aureus". This compound may be useful for treating autoimmune diseases, as it has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines and other factors that are involved in their pathogenesis. 12-Methyltridecanoic acid inhibits protein synthesis by binding to peptides.
