4-(Methylmercapto)aniline is a diphenyl sulfoxide that is used in organic synthesis as a precursor to heterocycles. It also has been shown to inhibit Cox-2 and can be used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. 4-(Methylmercapto)aniline binds to the active site of Cox-2, preventing it from converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandin H2 (PGH2).
