4-(Methylmercapto)aniline is a diphenyl sulfoxide that is used in organic synthesis as a precursor to heterocycles. It also has been shown to inhibit Cox-2 and can be used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. 4-(Methylmercapto)aniline binds to the active site of Cox-2, preventing it from converting arachidonic acid into prostaglandin H2 (PGH2). This inhibits the production of PGH2, which leads to decreased inflammation in the body. The chemical's anhydrous acetonitrile form is used in organic synthesis as a precursor to heterocycles. It also has been shown to inhibit Cox-2 and can be used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. 4-(Methylmercapto)aniline binds to the active site of Cox-2, preventing it from converting arachid
