6-Ethylpicolinate is a dioxygenase inhibitor that has the ability to cleave catechols. It is used as a reagent in the synthesis of methacryloyloxypropiophenone and benzylideneacetone. 6-Ethylpicolinate has also been shown to inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterium that causes lung infections, when applied externally. This compound can be used as an inhibitor of catechol oxidases or dioxygenases, which are enzymes that are involved in the oxidation of catechols.
