Product Information
Methyl 4-hydroxy-2-hexynoate (HHA) is a benzene derivative that undergoes a photocycloaddition reaction to produce cyclobutane. HHA is an electron donor and the reaction product is an acid catalyst. This compound has been shown to undergo electron transfer and intramolecular reactions. When irradiated with light, it reacts with dienophiles such as acetone or hydroxyacetone to form isomers. The quantum yield for this reaction is 0.6, which means that only one in every two photons of light will initiate a photoreaction. HHA also undergoes Diels-Alder reactions with dienophiles such as furan or maleic anhydride to form diene and dihydrofuran products.
