Product Information
Malondialdehyde potassium (MDAK) is a reactive oxygen species that is produced by the metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids. MDAK has been shown to induce apoptosis in myocytes and liver cells, which may be due to its ability to bind iron and transition metals. The binding of iron and transition metals leads to oxidative stress, DNA damage, and mitochondrial dysfunction. MDAK has been shown to cause hepatotoxicity in rats, which may be due to the production of reactive oxygen species. These reactive oxygen species then lead to increased levels of lipid peroxidation products such as malondialdehyde (MDA), 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), and acrolein. MDAK also induces hepatic steatosis by increasing fatty acid synthesis in the liver through activation of sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1c (SREBP1c).
