1-(2-Methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have ulcerogenic and antiinflammatory properties. It has also been shown to be more potent than aspirin in inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. The drug's antiinflammatory activity is due to its ability to inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. 1-(2-Methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)ethanone has also been shown to have anticancer properties as it inhibits the proliferation of tumor cells in culture. This chemical may be used for the treatment of inflammation and cancer.
