Magnesium oxide heavy (MgO) is a white powder that is used as a pharmaceutical dosage form. It has a high surface area, which can be increased by milling the particles to produce a finer particle size. Magnesium oxide heavy is a magnesium salt of an inorganic acid, such as magnesium sulphate or magnesium chloride. The activation energy for MgO dissolution is low and it has been shown to have insulin-like growth activity in vitro. This product can also be used as an absorbent for calcium carbonate. The particle size of MgO can vary depending on the desired effect and ranges from 100 microns to 10 microns. Predictive models have been created for the prediction of MgO dissolution rates and growth rates.
