This compound has been used in the synthesis of 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MPDA), which is a key component for the preparation of zirconium oxide nanoparticles. 4-Methacryloyloxyethyl trimellitic anhydride was also shown to have cytotoxic effects on human macrophages and cell cultures in vitro.
