It has been shown to have activity against colorectal adenocarcinoma cells, which is thought to be due to its ability to inhibit the production of colony-stimulating factor. 6-Methyloctanoic acid may also act as a chaperone and bind to a gene product, which could explain its anti-inflammatory effects. This chemical has been found in chromatographic analysis of human blood plasma and urine samples.
