Product Information

Name:
2-Hydroxypropyl methacrylate
Description:

2-Hydroxypropyl methacrylate is a small-molecule drug that is used as a monomer in the preparation of polymers. It has been shown to have antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus and cytocidal activity against human carcinoma cell lines. 2-Hydroxypropyl methacrylate has been shown to induce necrosis by binding to cellular nuclei, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with the cell membrane. The compound also inhibits protein synthesis by interacting with ribosomes, glycol ethers and glycol esters. This leads to an increase in the synthesis of proteins that are not essential for growth and results in cell death by apoptosis.
