Product Information
Modithromycin is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It has shown a high degree of efficacy against infectious diseases and can be used for the treatment of hepatitis C. Modithromycin has a terminal half-life of about 12 hours, which is longer than other macrolides, and it is excreted primarily in the bile. Modithromycin has a concentration-time curve that follows two phases: a rapid distribution phase and a slower elimination phase. Modithromycin does not inhibit efflux pumps, which are proteins that pump antibiotics out of bacteria cells, so it can be used to treat infections caused by bacteria with these types of pumps without worrying about resistance developing. Modithromycin has been shown to have a low incidence of adverse effects in clinical trials and its pharmacokinetics have been studied both in vitro and in vivo.
