4-(Maleimido)benzophenone is a compound that has been used in cardiac research. It inhibits the activity of glutamate dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of glutamate to alpha-ketoglutarate. This compound has been shown to cause subcellular changes such as filament formation, increased cytosolic calcium levels, and actin filament disruption. 4-(Maleimido)benzophenone also has been shown to inhibit both the cardiac L-type calcium channel and the sarcolemmal K+ channel in vitro.
