2-Methoxy-4-amino-5-mercaptobenzoic acid is a chemical compound and industrial chemical. It is an aromatic compound that features a benzoic acid core and two methoxy groups. The synthesis of 2-methoxy-4-amino-5-mercaptobenzoic acid starts with the alkylation of benzene with thionyl chloride to form a chloroalkylbenzene. This reaction can be followed by a condensation between the chloroalkylbenzene and acetaldehyde to form an olefin, which is then hydrogenated to produce 2,4,5-trichlorobenzaldehyde. Finally, 2,4,5-trichlorobenzaldehyde is reacted with methylamine hydrochloride in the presence of sulfuric acid to yield 2-methoxy 4 amino 5 mercaptobenzoic acid.
