N-Methoxymethylphenobarbital is an oxidizing agent that reacts with the alkoxy group of phenobarbital. This reaction produces a metal salt and an alkyl ether, which can be spectrophotometrically determined. The oxidation causes the formation of chloromethyl, which reacts with the alkoxy group to produce a polarographic response. N-Methoxymethylphenobarbital has been shown to be a potent anticonvulsant in mice.
