- 3,4,5-Trihydroxy-methyl Ester
Methyl (-)-shikimate is a synthetic chemical compound that has been shown to inhibit the enzyme lipase. It is an acid methyl ester, which means it contains a carboxyl group and a methyl group on the same carbon atom. It can be synthesized in two steps from d-lyxose and trichloroethylidene. Methyl (-)-shikimate is used as a precursor to other organic compounds, such as vinyl acetate and dibenzyloxy. The cyclohexane ring of this molecule can be functionalized with different groups to produce new compounds.
