Description

Methyl 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetate is a chemical compound that is used as a prodrug. It is hydrolyzed enzymatically to methyl 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid (6-MNA) in the body, which has potent antihistamine activity. Methyl 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetate can be prepared by reacting an aryl acetate with methanol and sodium methoxide. This reaction is spontaneous at temperatures of 20 °C or higher, but not below this temperature. The anion of methyl 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetate is CH3O− and its pH is constant at 7.0.
