Product Information
- 3-Methyl-2-oxiranecarboxylic acid methyl ester2,3-Epoxybutyric acid methyl ester
Methyl epoxycrotonate is an epoxide that undergoes stereospecific deoxygenation to form a chiral epoxide. It is used as a chiral synthon for the synthesis of many other biologically active compounds. Methyl epoxycrotonate has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Streptococcus pneumoniae. This compound also inhibits the growth of Candida albicans, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of ergosterol, an important component in the fungal cell membrane.
