Product Information
- 3-(3,4-Dihydro-2H-pyrrol-5-yl)-5-methyl-pyridine
5-Methyl myosmine is a byproduct of nicotine metabolism in the human body. It can be measured in urine as a biomarker for tobacco exposure and has been used to assess smoking cessation. 5-Methyl myosmine is quantitated with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The structural and reductive properties of 5-methyl myosmine have been studied, as well as its ability to alkylate other molecules. 5-Methyl myosmine has also been shown to be an analogue for the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in the mammalian central nervous system, which may help explain why it can pass through the blood brain barrier.
